The War Zone Chef
Proje Bilgileri ( İki Savaş Bir Şef )
Set in landscapes torn apart by war, this documentary tells the story of a small yet resilient passion that keeps hope alive: cooking. For Wareef Kassem, a Syrian refugee chef living in Gaza, life has been a journey shaped by destruction but also by unexpected chances. He believes that cooking is never just about feeding the body; food carries a soul, a memory, and a life-sustaining power. Each obstacle he faced only deepened this belief rather than diverting him from his path.
When fleeing the war in Syria, the most valuable possessions he carried with him were his knives. For Wareef, cooking was inseparable from his identity. As he built a new life in another war zone, Gaza, he encountered the love of his life, and the kitchen transformed into more than a place of survival. It became a space for love, belonging, and putting down roots. The War Zone Chef offers a moving portrait of a man who continues to create amid devastation, turning passion into a form of resistance that knows no borders.
